Duplicate Google Business Profile: how to remove it
Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team
Quick answer
Google allows only one profile per business, and duplicates can stop your real profile from showing. If you manage the duplicate, remove it from your account in Business Profile settings. That doesn't affect your verified profile, but it does delete the duplicate's content, so pick the right one. If you don't manage it, open the duplicate on Google Maps, suggest an edit and report it as a duplicate. Google reviews these reports, and merged profiles combine their reviews.
Why it happens
Created by mistake
Someone made a new profile instead of finding and claiming the existing one, often after a lost login.
Created after a move or name change
A new profile was made for the new address or name instead of updating the old one.
Added by others
Customers, staff or an old agency may have added the business to Maps separately.
Separate profiles for each service
Google's rules say services belong on one profile, not on separate listings.
How to fix it
Decide which profile to keep
Keep the verified profile with the correct details and the most reviews. Note the name and address of the one to remove.
If you manage the duplicate, remove it
Sign in to the account that manages it, open Business Profile settings and use the option to remove the profile. Double-check you're removing the right one.
If you don't manage it, report it on Maps
Open the duplicate in Google Maps, tap Suggest an edit, choose to close or remove it, and mark it as a duplicate.
If it belongs to someone else, request access
If a verified duplicate is owned by another account, request ownership first. Then you can remove or merge it.
Contact support if it won't go
If reports don't work, or Google wrongly marked your real profile as a duplicate, contact Business Profile support with details of both listings.
For businesses in India
- Shops that moved within the same market often end up with two listings, one at the old shop number and one at the new. Update the old profile's address instead of creating a new one.
- Doctors who also have a clinic profile can sometimes have both, as Google allows individual practitioners. They should be distinct profiles, not copies of each other.
Questions
Will I lose reviews when a duplicate is removed?
If you remove a duplicate yourself, its content goes with it. If Google merges two profiles of the same business, Google says reviews are combined, but replies to reviews may be lost.
Can two businesses share one address?
Yes, if they're distinct businesses with different names and clearly separate signage.
