Google Business Profile for doctors and general physician clinics in India

Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team

Quick answer

Pick "General practitioner" as your primary category and get your consultation hours exactly right, including morning and evening sessions. Most patients use your profile to check if you are sitting today and to call, so timings and phone matter more than anything else. Ask for reviews when the patient collects their prescription, and never mention their illness when you reply.

Pick your categories

Primary category

General practitioner

Also add, if they fit

  • Doctor
  • Clinic (also shown as “Medical clinic”)
  • Medical centre (also shown as “Medical Center”)Add if several doctors see patients at your place.
  • If you are a specialist, like a paediatrician, diabetologist or dermatologist, use that specialty as your primary category instead of "General practitioner".
  • Add "Medical centre" only if several doctors see patients at your place. A single-doctor clinic is better described by "General practitioner" and "Clinic".

Services to list

Keep it to what you really do at the clinic. Patients look for simple things like whether you see children or do home visits.

  • General consultation
  • Fever and infection check-up
  • Diabetes and blood pressure follow-up
  • Health check-up or fitness certificate, if you issue them
  • Children's consultation, if you see children
  • Vaccinations, only the ones you actually stock and give
  • Dressing and minor procedures
  • Home visits, with the areas you cover
  • Teleconsultation, if you offer it

Photos that work

  • The clinic entrance and board, including the floor or shop number if you're in a building.
  • The consultation room and examination table.
  • The waiting area, so patients know if there's space to sit.
  • The doctor at the desk, with a clear and recent photo. Patients like to know who they'll see.
  • A photo of the board that shows your sitting timings, if you have one.
  • Don't photograph patients, prescriptions or files, even blurred.

What to post about

  • Sitting timings changes, a doctor on leave, or a locum covering. This is the most useful post you can make.
  • During monsoon, a short note on when to see a doctor for fever, and that you're open. Keep it calm and factual.
  • Holiday closures for Diwali, Holi, Eid, Christmas or local festivals, posted before the day.
  • Vaccination days or camps you run, with the date and what to bring.
  • A new doctor joining the clinic, with their qualifications as they would write them.

When and how to ask for reviews

Ask when the patient is leaving with their prescription or paying the fee. For regular patients with long-term conditions, ask once after a follow-up visit, not at every visit.

  1. Put the QR at the front desk

Print your Google review QR code and place it where patients pay or collect medicines.

  2. Let the receptionist ask, not the doctor

A simple line works: "If you found the visit helpful, a Google review helps others find the clinic." Every patient gets the same request.

  3. Send the link with the follow-up message

If you message patients about follow-ups or reports, add the review link at the end once.

  4. Keep replies general

Thank people, but never confirm that someone is your patient or mention what they came for. Reply to complaints by asking them to call the clinic.

Whenever you ask, Google's rules apply: ask every customer, not only the happy ones, and never offer anything in return for a review.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrong or outdated sitting hours

A patient who travels to a closed clinic often leaves an angry review. Use split hours on Google for morning and evening sessions, and special hours for holidays.

  • Different timings on Practo and Google

Patients compare both. Change them on the same day.

  • Promotional claims

Medical advertising in India has rules. Check your professional body's current guidance before adding offers, "best doctor" wording or claims in your posts.

  • Duplicate profiles for the doctor and the clinic

If the same clinic shows up twice, patients get confused and reviews get split. Merge or remove the duplicate.

Questions

I sit at two clinics on different days. Can I have two profiles?

Each clinic can have its own profile with the hours you're there. Don't make two profiles for the same address. If the other clinic already has a profile, ask its owner to add your timings rather than creating your own.

A patient wrote their diagnosis in a review. What do I do?

Don't repeat it in your reply. Thank them in general words. If the review shares someone else's private health details, you can report it to Google.

Should I show my consultation fee?

You can add it in the service description if you're comfortable. Patients often call just to ask, so it saves time. Keep it the same as on Practo and your board.
