Google Business Profile not updating: stuck, pending or rejected edits

Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team

Quick answer

Edits are reviewed before they go live. Many go through quickly, but Google says some can take much longer, up to about a month. An edit stays pending or gets rejected when Google can't confirm it's accurate, or when it breaks the guidelines. Make sure the change matches your signboard, website and other listings. Submit it once and don't keep re-editing. If it's rejected and you're sure it's right, Google says you may be able to appeal the rejected edit.

Why it happens

  • Google can't confirm the change

A new name, address, phone or category that doesn't appear anywhere else online is often held or rejected.

  • Too many edits in a row

Changing the same field again and again, or changing several key details together, can keep edits in review.

  • The edit breaks a guideline

Keywords in the name, a promotional description or an ineligible address are usually rejected.

  • Google applied someone else's update

Google can update your profile based on reports from other sources, which may overwrite your change.

How to fix it

  1. Check the edit status

In your profile, look at each field for a pending, not-approved or Google-update label so you know which edits are stuck.

  2. Match the change everywhere else

Update your website, signboard, social pages and directory listings first, so Google can confirm the new detail.

  3. Stop re-editing

Make one clean edit per field and leave it. Change one key detail at a time and wait for it to settle before the next.

  4. Review Google's updates

If Google changed something, accept it if it's correct or edit it back once if it's wrong.

  5. Appeal or contact support

If a correct edit is rejected or stuck for weeks, appeal the rejected edit where the option appears, or contact Business Profile support with proof.

For businesses in India

  • Festival and holiday timings are a common edit. Use the special hours option for Diwali, Eid or other closures rather than changing your regular hours back and forth.

Questions

Why does Google keep changing my details back?

Google uses information from other sources, including user suggestions and other websites. When those disagree with your edit, it may overwrite it. Fixing the other sources is the long-term solution.

My profile shows updated info to me but not to customers. Why?

As the owner you may see your pending edit. Customers see the last approved version until the review finishes.
