Profile disabled because 'the business does not exist': how to appeal

Updated 2 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team

Quick answer

Google uses this reason when it can't confirm a real business operating at that address under that name. Real businesses get caught when the signboard name doesn't match the profile, the address can't be confirmed, or the business looks like it isn't open to customers. Fix any mismatch first, then appeal with photos and documents that show the name, address and that you're trading.

Why it happens

  • Name mismatch

The profile name differs from the signboard or official documents, for example extra keywords added to the name.

  • Address can't be confirmed

A shared building, a missing shop number or a residential address can make the location look doubtful.

  • Doesn't look open to customers

Businesses with no signage, no regular hours or no customer-facing location are checked more strictly.

  • Reports from others

Edits or reports from the public saying the business is closed or doesn't exist can trigger a review.

How to fix it

  1. Make the profile match real life

Use the exact name on your signboard and documents, the full address with shop or unit number, and your real hours.

  2. Gather your evidence

Take clear photos of the signboard, the entrance with the street visible, and the inside. Keep documents with the same name and address, such as a GST certificate, shop licence or utility bill.

  3. Submit an appeal

Open the Business Profile appeals tool, choose the disabled profile and upload your evidence. Have everything ready before you start, as the evidence form has a time limit.

  4. Don't create a new profile

Making a fresh profile for the same business while the old one is under appeal usually makes things worse.

  5. Track the appeal

Check the status in the appeals tool. If it isn't approved, review what didn't match and appeal again with stronger proof.

For businesses in India

  • A GST certificate or shop and establishment licence showing the same name and address is strong proof.
  • If you work from home, the profile should usually be set up as a service-area business with the address hidden.

Questions

Will I lose my reviews?

If the original profile is reinstated, its reviews usually come back with it. That's one reason to appeal instead of starting a new profile.
