Google Business Profile suspended: how to fix it
Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team
Quick answer
Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool first. It shows the profile, the reason Google gives and the policy it says you broke. Fix that problem on the profile, collect documents that show the same name and address, then submit one appeal with that proof. Don't create a new profile while you wait. If you can't tell what's wrong, check your name, address, phone number and category against your signboard and documents. Most suspensions of real local businesses come from a mismatch there.
Why it happens
Name, address or phone don't match real life
Keywords or area names added to the business name, a missing shop number, or a phone number that isn't the business's own. These come up again and again.
Google can't confirm the business
No signboard, a home address shown publicly for a business customers don't visit, or a virtual office. All of these make Google doubt the business is real at that spot.
Recent big changes
Changing the address, name or category, or adding new owners and managers, can trigger a fresh check. Doing several at once makes it more likely.
Activity Google treats as suspicious
Things like bought or swapped reviews, many profiles run from one account, or logins that look unusual. These can lead to a suspension or an account restriction.
How to fix it
Find the reason in the appeals tool
Sign in with the Google account that owns the profile and open the Business Profile appeals tool. It lists the restricted profile, the reason and a link to the policy. Also read any email Google sent you.
Open the guide for your reason
Deceptive content, 'business does not exist', quality issues and policy violations each need slightly different fixes. Use the linked guides on this page to see what to clean up.
Fix the profile before you appeal
Use the exact name on your signboard and documents. Use a real address with the shop number, or hide it if you're a service-area business. Use a phone number that belongs to the business. Remove anything that isn't strictly true.
Prepare your proof first
Get your documents ready before you start: business registration or a licence, a tax certificate, and a utility bill for the business (electricity, phone, water or internet), plus photos of the signboard and premises. The name and address on them must match the profile. Have them ready because once you open Google's evidence form, you must submit it within 60 minutes.
Submit one appeal and wait
In the appeals tool, select Submit Appeal. Google then offers an Add evidence option, and it highly recommends using it, so upload your documents there. Google will email you a decision. Don't edit the profile repeatedly or create a new profile for the same business while the appeal is under review.
If it's not approved, read why before trying again
A rejection usually means something still doesn't match. Google allows an additional review of a denied appeal, where you can add evidence you didn't send the first time. Fix what's wrong first, and see our guide on appeals that weren't approved before you send anything else.
For businesses in India
- A GST certificate, shop and establishment licence, Udyam registration or an electricity bill in the business name are useful proof. They only help if the name and address on them match the profile.
- Area names in the business name ("…Clinic Andheri West") and the same mobile number used on several listings are very common in India. Fix both before appealing.
- If you run the business from home and customers don't visit, set it up as a service-area business and hide the address.
Questions
How long does a suspension appeal take?
It varies. Some are decided within a few days, others take longer. Google says it will email you the decision, and you can check the status in the appeals tool.
Should I just make a new profile?
No. Google's own help page says not to create a new profile for the same business while an appeal is under review. A new profile also starts without your reviews.
How do I check the status of my appeal?
Open the appeals tool, signed in with the same Google account, and select the profile. It shows one of: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can't be appealed, or Eligible for appeal.
What if my whole Google account is restricted?
Then every profile you manage is suspended and you can't create or claim new ones. Appeal the account restriction first from the restrictions page in your Google Account. Once that's lifted, appeal each Business Profile in the appeals tool.
What's the difference between suspended and disabled?
Both mean the profile isn't working normally because Google thinks it breaks the guidelines. In both cases you fix the problem, then appeal from the same appeals tool.
