Suspended for suspicious activity: secure the account, then appeal
Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team
Quick answer
Google uses this when activity on the profile or the account looks unusual. Common examples are sign-ins from strange places, many profiles managed from one account, a sudden burst of reviews, or lots of edits in a short time. First secure your Google account and remove anyone you don't recognise. Then fix the profile and appeal. If your whole Google account has been restricted, appeal the account first, then the profile.
Why it happens
Unusual sign-ins or a hacked account
Logins from unfamiliar devices or locations, or someone else getting into the account, can be flagged.
Lots of changes at once
Many edits to the name, address, phone or category in a short time, or adding and removing managers repeatedly.
Sudden burst of reviews
Many reviews arriving together, especially from new accounts or in exchange for something, can look suspicious.
One account running many profiles
An account that creates or manages lots of profiles, especially ones that look alike, gets checked more strictly.
How to fix it
Secure your Google account
Change the password, turn on 2-step verification, and check the account's recent security activity for devices you don't recognise.
Clean up owners and managers
In the profile settings, remove any owner or manager you don't know or no longer work with.
Check whether the account itself is restricted
If you can't create or claim any profiles, your Google account may be restricted. Google's help page says to appeal that from your Google Account's restrictions page first.
Fix the profile details
Make sure the name, address, phone and category match your signboard and documents, and undo any changes you didn't make.
Appeal the profile with proof
Use the Business Profile appeals tool. Add documents and photos, and briefly explain any unusual activity, such as a hacked account you've now secured.
For businesses in India
- It's common for one family member's Gmail to manage the shop, the clinic and a relative's business together. Give each business its own owner where you can, and keep the profile under an account the actual owner controls.
Questions
My agency managed the profile. Could that cause it?
It can, if the agency's account was flagged or if it made lots of changes quickly. Make sure you, the business owner, are the primary owner, and remove access you don't need.
