Google Business Profile for hotels, lodges and guest houses in India

Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team

Quick answer

Choose "Hotel" as your primary category, or "Guest house" or "Lodge" if that describes a smaller place better. Hotel profiles get extra fields like amenities, check-in times and star class, so fill in every one that applies. Guests judge by rooms and bathrooms, so add real photos of each room type, and ask for a review at checkout.

Pick your categories

Primary category

Hotel

For a small place with a few rooms, "Guest house" or "Lodge" may describe you better. Pick the one guests would use.

Also add, if they fit

  • Banquet hallAdd only if you have a hall for functions.
  • Resort hotelAdd only if you are a resort.
  • RestaurantAdd if your restaurant serves the public, not only guests.
  • If a restaurant inside your hotel is run by another company, it should have its own profile. Don't add its category to yours.
  • Add "Banquet hall" only if you have a hall that's booked for functions.

Amenities and details to fill in

Hotel profiles have their own amenities section. Fill in every one that applies, and use the description for what makes you useful.

  • Check-in and check-out times
  • Room types, with what's included
  • Amenities: Wi-Fi, AC, parking, breakfast, lift, power backup, hot water
  • Distance from the railway station, bus stand, airport or temple, in the description
  • Family-friendly or couple-friendly policy, stated clearly
  • Banquet or conference hall, if you have one
  • Pet policy
  • Your own website or booking contact

Photos that work

  • Each room type: the bed, the view from the bed, and the bathroom.
  • Bathrooms on their own, clean and well lit. Guests look for these first.
  • The reception and lobby.
  • The building from the road, day and night.
  • Dining area, rooftop, pool or garden, if you have them.
  • The view, if there is one worth showing.
  • Upload new photos after any renovation. Remove old ones you added.

What to post about

  • Some features, including posts, may not be available for hotel profiles. If you can't post, keep photos and amenities current instead.
  • If you can post: peak season dates for your town, like pilgrimage seasons, hill-station summers or winter holidays.
  • Wedding season banquet bookings, if you have a hall.
  • Festival events, like a New Year's Eve dinner or Durga Puja celebration.
  • Renovated rooms, with new photos.

When and how to ask for reviews

Ask at checkout, when the guest settles the bill. Business travellers who stay often are worth asking once.

  1. QR at reception

Place the review QR on the reception desk and in each room.

  2. Ask at checkout

"Hope you enjoyed your stay. A Google review helps other travellers." Ask every guest.

  3. Message after they leave

Send a thank-you on WhatsApp the same day with the link, while the stay is fresh.

  4. Reply to every review

Hotels are judged on replies. Thank good reviews, and answer complaints politely with what you've fixed.

Whenever you ask, Google's rules apply: ask every customer, not only the happy ones, and never offer anything in return for a review.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Photos that hide the truth

Wide-angle shots that make small rooms look huge lead to angry reviews. Show rooms as they are.

  • Wrong category for your size

A small lodge calling itself a resort sets expectations you can't meet. Pick what guests would call you.

  • Booking sites showing different details

Keep your name, address, phone and amenities the same on Google and the booking sites you use.

Questions

Can I show my room prices on Google?

Google shows hotel prices mainly through its booking partners and connections. Check what's available for your profile. Don't add prices in your business name or description.

A guest left a bad review about cleanliness. What do I do?

Reply politely, say sorry, and say what you've changed. Future guests read your reply. Don't argue or share the guest's details.
