Google Business Profile for gyms and fitness centres in India

Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team

Quick answer

Use "Gym" as your primary category and add classes like yoga or Zumba only as services, unless you run a proper studio for them. People choose a gym by looking at the floor, so add real photos of your equipment, changing rooms and parking. Ask members for a review after their first month, once they've settled in, not on the day they join.

Primary category

Gym

Also add, if they fit

  • Fitness centre (also shown as “Fitness center”)
  • Personal trainerAdd if you offer personal training.
  • Yoga studioAdd only if you run regular yoga classes.
  • Boxing GymAdd only if you have a boxing setup and coach.
  • If you're a personal trainer without your own gym, pick "Personal trainer" as primary and hide your home address. You go to clients or train them at someone else's gym.
  • If a cafe or supplement shop inside your gym is run separately, it needs its own profile. Don't add its category to yours.

Memberships and classes to list

People want to know what's included and the timings. Add each membership and class as a service.

  • Monthly, quarterly and yearly memberships, with prices if you're comfortable
  • Personal training
  • Group classes, like Zumba, yoga, functional training or spinning, with days and times
  • Women-only batches, if you have them
  • Diet and nutrition guidance, only if a qualified person gives it
  • Free trial session, only if you really offer one
  • Steam room or locker facilities

Photos that work

  • The full gym floor from a few angles, during the day, so the size is clear.
  • Cardio machines and the free weights area.
  • Changing rooms, showers and lockers. Women members especially look for these.
  • Trainers at work, with their permission.
  • A group class in progress, with members' permission.
  • Parking. In busy areas this decides it.
  • Use real photos, not equipment brochures or stock images of models.

What to post about

  • New Year batches in late December, when people decide to start.
  • Pre-wedding fitness programmes before the wedding season in your area.
  • New machines or a renovated floor, with photos.
  • Changed timings for Diwali, Holi or other holidays.
  • Class timetables when they change, especially women-only batches.

When and how to ask for reviews

Ask members after their first month, once they know the trainers and have seen some progress. Joining day is too early to judge a gym.

  1. Mark the one-month date

Note each member's joining date. When they reach a month, the front desk asks them in person.

  2. Put the QR near the exit

Members leave tired but happy. A QR code near the exit or reception catches that moment.

  3. Send it on renewal

When a member renews, thank them and share the review link once.

  4. No free days for reviews

Don't offer an extra week, merchandise or discounts for reviews. Ask every member and accept what they write.

Whenever you ask, Google's rules apply: ask every customer, not only the happy ones, and never offer anything in return for a review.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Stock photos of models

Using brochure photos instead of your floor misleads people. They leave bad reviews when the real gym looks different.

  • Wrong hours for women's batches or Sundays

If you have split hours or a different Sunday schedule, set them properly. Turned-away members review fast.

  • "Best gym" in the name

Keep your name exactly as on your board. Words like "best" or your locality added for search can get the profile suspended.

Questions

We have two branches. Does each need its own profile?

Yes. Each branch with its own address, staff and hours should have its own profile. Use the same brand name for both.

Should I show membership prices?

Many gyms don't, but showing at least a starting price cuts down on calls from people who are only comparing. Keep it updated.
