Google Business Profile for schools in India
Updated 3 Oct 2026 by TopOnMaps team
Quick answer
Choose your board as the primary category, like "CBSE School" or "ICSE School", or "School" for a state board school. Set your hours to when the school office is open to parents, since that's when people call or visit. Post about admissions well before the new session, and ask parents for reviews at the end of the academic year.
Pick your categories
Primary category
CBSE School
Pick your board: "CBSE School" or "ICSE School". For a state board school, use "School".
Also add, if they fit
- School
- Primary school (also shown as “Elementary school”)Add if you have primary classes.
- Higher secondary schoolAdd if you have classes 11 and 12.
- Boarding schoolAdd only if students stay on campus.
- Add "Primary school" and "Higher secondary school" for the classes you actually have.
- A separate preschool wing with its own entrance can have its own profile. Don't add "Pre-school" to the main school's profile just to show up for it.
What to list
Schools don't sell services in the usual way, but parents look for these details. Add them to the description and attributes.
- Classes offered, from which class to which
- Board and medium of instruction
- Streams in classes 11 and 12
- Transport routes or areas covered
- Facilities like labs, library, sports ground and smart classes, only what you have
- Admission process and when forms are available
- Office hours for admission enquiries
Photos that work
- The school building and main gate, which parents use to find it.
- Classrooms, labs, library and computer room.
- The playground and sports facilities.
- School buses, if you run them.
- Events like annual day or sports day, using wide shots or with consent from parents.
- No close-ups of students without consent.
What to post about
- Admissions open for the next session, with how to apply and the last date.
- School tour or open house dates for new parents.
- Board results, shared with students' consent, or as a summary without names.
- Annual day, sports day and festival celebrations.
- Holiday lists and changes in office hours during vacations.
When and how to ask for reviews
Ask parents near the end of the academic year, when they can judge the whole year. Alumni and older students can be asked at their farewell.
Ask at the final parent meeting
Mention it at the last parent-teacher meeting of the year and keep the QR code at the desk.
Send it in the end-of-year message
Add the link to the message where you share the results or the new session dates.
Ask every parent
Not just the ones whose children did well. Selective asking breaks Google's rules.
Keep replies about the school
Never name a student or discuss a child's case in a public reply. Invite the parent to meet the office.
Whenever you ask, Google's rules apply: ask every customer, not only the happy ones, and never offer anything in return for a review.
Mistakes to avoid
School hours instead of office hours
If you show 8 am to 2 pm, parents may come in the afternoon when the office is still open but your profile says closed, or the other way round. Show the hours a parent can visit or call.
Duplicates made by parents
Schools often have duplicate listings created by parents or old staff. Claim them or ask Google to merge or remove them.
Adding "best" or a locality to the name
Use the school's name as on the board and affiliation. Extra words can get the profile suspended.
Questions
Our school has two campuses. Do both need profiles?
Yes, if they are at different addresses with their own office. Use the school's name and, if you already use one, the campus name the school uses on its signs.
Parents leave reviews about fees. How should we reply?
Reply politely and briefly, explain the fee structure is shared at admission, and invite them to meet the office. Don't argue in public.
